Congrats to Another Plant-Based Weight Loss Success! Read his full story:
I’ve just reached my goal weight of 170 lbs.
Thank you, Forks Over Knives, for showing me the way!
On the left, I was 53 years old and weighed approximately 300 pounds.
I had type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure, fatty liver disease, cardiovascular issues, severe gastric reflux disease, Barrett’s esophagus, high triglycerides, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, etc., with each condition requiring a different medication. I was a mess, to say the least!
Fast forward to age 60 (2.5 years of being 100% whole food plant-based): not only have I lost 130 pounds, I’ve also completely healed my body.
All of my chronic health issues have resolved in their entirety. Not a trace of diabetes, heart issues, high blood pressure, gastric reflux, fatty liver, sleep apnea… all completely reversed.
I take no pills at all.
I no longer use a CPAP machine.
I am at my high school weight, 170 lbs.
My overall cholesterol level was 90 last year.
I just took my blood pressure 102/56, pulse 47 (even in my best shape, I always had high blood pressure).
I’ve gotten rid of pain that I didn’t even know I had till it was gone (mostly stomach cramping and joint inflammation that had been present since childhood).
I haven’t had a headache nor have I been sick in at least two years.
It’s as if I finally found the right kind of fuel for my engine. Energy for days and stamina for miles.
I tell people that if you were to have offered me a pill at any point in my life that made me feel the way I do now, I would have given everything I had to buy that pill (I don’t believe I’m exaggerating).
Now I can hike and swim all day, and not collapse when I get home (a short 20 minute walk would have done that to me a few year previous). How I wish I would have discovered this way of eating years ago!
And the only thing I did was switch to eating whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. That’s it. No gimmicks.
My motivation was 100% wanting to be healthy and alive (I’m convinced I’d be neither right now had I not found this way of eating).
I have a new lease on life now, which makes me very happy.
I had a weight problem my entire life and was the master of yo-yo dieting. If I can find success with this way of eating, anyone can!
It’s not hard. I’m never hungry, nor do I crave sweets or junk.
Once my palate grew accustomed to the taste of whole foods and I felt the changes inside my body, the temptation to go back to the burger and pizza diet waned to practical irrelevancy.
For the first time in my life I can say that wild horses could not drag me back to the standard American diet. I put my trust in people who told me they felt the same way, and now I am one of them.
