“I help women leaders create pathways to the leadership level that matches their aspirations. I help the people who run the companies women work for create cultures and strategies to support the advancement of women. I create and facilitate retreats and workshops to move leaders, companies and teams to the next level.
I wanted the way I looked to match the way I felt – to match the way I want my clients to feel: powerful, confident and unencumbered by self-consciousness about our physical appearance. While I was achieving at the highest level of my professional life, I still struggled with my weight and fitness.
I’d been practicing an exercise from the book The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan. Each morning, I asked myself what ONE thing I could do such that, by doing it, everything else would become easier or unnecessary. When it came to my body, I decided that one thing was to get a nutrition coach.
In our first phone conversation, Sheri proved to be knowledgeable, experienced, compassionate, and confident in her ability to help me. She understood that I’d been on the diet merry-go-round my whole life and, at age 57, felt frightened that I’d done irreparable damage to my muscle tone and metabolism. I wanted a way of eating for LIFE – not quick loss, but a future free from size 14 clothes.
She suggested I read The Starch Solution by Dr. John MacDougal and watch the movie, Food Choices. I did both in the first week, and by week two, I went all-in on a whole foods, plant-based way of eating. No slow phase-in, no arguments – I just committed fully. It was scary, because STARCH had always been the enemy – or so I’d been told. But the science added up, and I was desperate. That was 14 weeks ago, and I’ve followed the plan, and Sheri’s weekly suggestions, ever since.
Now I eat foods like baked potatoes, lentil soup, popcorn, black beans and rice, fresh vegetables, and a glass of red wine every evening, unless I share a beer with my man. We go out to eat at least once a week. I’m lucky to live in Los Angeles, where vegan restaurants abound. But to be honest, fancy cooking with tons of ingredients no longer appeals to me. We eat at a Tibetan restaurant a lot where he can get meat, and I can get potatoes, veggies and brown rice in a vegetable sauce free from oil. And I LOVE my meal. I leave STUFFED.
I’ve lost 14 lbs. – one pound per week since I started. I don’t feel like I’m on a diet, so the sane rate of loss makes me feel I can eat this way forever and eventually get to my goal weight. And stay there. My blood sugar has evened out and I don’t experience energy highs and lows throughout the day or that painful, gnawing hunger I used to feel when dieting.
If you are considering joining up with Sheri, I URGE you to try this food plan that she is so passionate about. It’s very scary – the food choices fly in the face of everything we chronic dieters have learned about what makes us fat. But I, for one, am DONE with dieting and just want to live. Constant hunger is not good for my concentration, focus and success. The calm, even mood I experience on this diet frees me to put my focus where it belongs – on my goals and those of my clients. This diet, and Sheri’s coaching, are what I need to have the body and life I’ve longed for.
I recently flew round trip in one day to a city half way across the country for the biggest interview of my life, where I facilitated and coached in front of a panel of auditors. I wore a dress and boots that 1) traveled well 2) were completely comfortable and 3) looked fantastic. While the panel put me through my paces, I never once thought about my belly, or if my spanx were creating a line across my thighs, or if my stomach would let out a loud growl in the middle of my talk. I performed at my highest level, focused on bringing value to potential clients. My decision to work with Sheri is without a doubt a major reason for my success. Onward!”
